JAAP J. C. WEYNMAN (AUGUST 28, 1921 JULY 9, 2009) After a long illness, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Lakeside Long-Term Care Centre, Toronto. Lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Estelle Weynman and stepsons, Ian (Margaret) Veroni and Clive Veroni and by his many grandchildren and greatgrandsons. And also by his caring nephews and nieces. Born in Zaandam, Holland, Jaap moved to Canada in 1951, after serving in Indonesia with the Dutch army. He loved Canada, its wide open spaces and its pristine natural beauty. After marrying Estelle in 1987, the two of them spent many happy years travelling the length and breadth of the country by car, from Victoria to Newfoundland and even up the punishing Dempster Highway to Innuvik. His profession was dentist but his passions lay in his many avocations. Jaap was an avid pilot and loved flying to his cottage and landing his floatplane on the northern lakes, both summer and winter. He was a highly skilled craftsman and built many intricate working models and steam locomotives. He was, for many years, an active member and ex-president of the Toronto Society of Model Engineers. He was also a photographer, a lover of classical music and a student of history. But as all his friends and family know, his real passion was chocolate. Jaap was vigorous in both mind and body and adventurous in spirit, before being slowed by his many illnesses. His mischievious playfulness remained intact, however, until the end. Heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. Edny and the entire team at Lakeside for their skilled and compassionate care over many months. Interment will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 375 Mount Pleasant Road on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 2 p.m.
