Tamara Vrooman has made a career of defying expectations. She is a former history scholar who, in her 30s, became deputy minister of finance in British Columbia - and was a key player, working with former minister Carole Taylor in upgrading the province's credit rating to triple-A. Sixteen months ago, she moved to Vancity credit union, the country's largest, where, as CEO, she has confronted a financial industry buffeted by troubling new realities. And at 40, she clearly isn't done.
