Loonie surges more than 2 cents

The volatile Canadian dollar, lifted by rising commodity prices, surged more than 2 cents Tuesday to 86.87 cents (U.S.) – up more than 9 cents from a week ago. “The volatility has been unprecedented in the last several sessions, the last several weeks. It's unbelievable,” Bank of Montreal economist Michael Gregory said in an interview.
