The Canadian dollar continued to “flirt with levels on either side of parity” Friday after surpassing the U.S. dollar for the first time in 31 years on Thursday. Economists said the currency market appeared to be pausing while deciding where to go next. The loonie opened dead even with the United States dollar Friday, lost some of its lustre after Statistics Canada reported lower-than-expected retail sales, but had reached parity again by mid-morning.
