Patrick Piette is the first to admit he isn't a scrapbooker, and knows little about crafts generally. But his business smarts enabled him to parlay that lack of experience into a successful retail scrapbooking store, and then into an online presence that is poised to outsell its bricks-and-mortar sibling. Mr. Piette, 37, is a former Toronto investment banker with experience in mergers and acquisitions who was asked to research the crafts industry as part of his banking job.
