Markets plunge on China meltdown

Stock markets around the world plunged Tuesday as a meltdown on China's overheated exchange and growing worries about the staying power of the North American economy sent investors scrambling for the exits. In Canada, every sector of the market — from volatile commodity stocks to banks and utilities — was caught in the wave of selling, which sent the benchmark S&P/TSX composite index down 364.35 points or 2.7 per cent to 13,040.11.
