ProMetic shines on report of potential breakthrough

The Lancet, a prestigious British medical journal, on Friday reported results of a potential breakthrough in removing the deadly prion protein responsible for the human form of mad-cow disease from contaminated blood. It was achieved using a filter made by a ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. joint venture. In early trading on the TSX, ProMetic stock surged higher, gaining almost 25 per cent to trade at 48 cents a share.
