Bandwidth hunger hits final frontier

As services such as broadband and high-definition television become more popular, the communication industry's bandwidth spending spree is poised to jump from the Earth to space. Ciel Satellite Communications Inc. and Telesat Canada are among the satellite operators looking at some of the 29 new satellite licences that Ottawa will soon put up for grabs. However, that interest comes with an astronomical price tag.
