Amazon to sell electronics on Canadian site
Amazon.com Inc. said it will add a consumer electronics category to its Canadian website - Amazon.ca - starting today even as forecasters warn of declining consumer spending during the holiday season. The Seattle-based company is hoping to encourage Canadian customers to shop for digital cameras and computer accessories, such as speakers and MP3 music players, in addition to books and CDs in the run-up to Christmas. "It's our first new category that we've launched in five years," said Julie Todaro, director of Amazon.ca. Video game hardware and software was the last new product line added to Amazon's Canadian site. Amazon's U.S. website also sells downloadable music and movies as well as digital print books and audio books, however the company hasn't said when those services will be available to Canadians. AMZN (Nasdaq) fell 18 cents to $56.71 (U.S.).
