Productivity slumps again

Labour productivity in Canadian businesses, long a worry among both politicians and economists, unexpectedly fell for the second quarter in a row amid losses in the manufacturing and construction sectors. Productivity slipped 0.1 per cent between July and September, countering expectations for an increase. That follows a 0.3-per-cent decline in the second quarter, Statistics Canada said Monday. Prior to that the economy had posted seven consecutive quarters of positive growth.
