Heather was a graduate of Havergal College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Toronto in 1954.

Among other things she was a great athlete who had a passion for the game of golf and was a 7-time winner of the Ladies Club Championship at the Briar's Golf Club. She was also a member of the Princess Anne Chapter of the I.O.D.E. as well as the W.I.G.S.
