Heenan Blaikie LLP:
Ivan G. Whitehall, Q.C.,
From The Globe and Mail
Heenan Blaikie LLP is pleased to announce that Ivan G. Whitehall has joined the Ottawa office of the firm, where his exceptional experience blends in beautifully with the strength of our Litigation Group. Mr. Whitehall was the Chief General Counsel of the Canadian Department of Justice from 1989 to 2003. He was the Department's senior litigation practitioner and sat on a number of its key committees in addition to acting as advisor to many senior members of the Government of Canada. Mr. Whitehall is part of an elite circle of litigators, having appeared dozens of times before the Supreme Court of Canada. He is also one of those rare lawyers possessing experience with major cases and public inquiries, such as the cancellation of the Pearson Airport contract, the settlement of the Hepatitis C class action suits in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec, the Kirpal Inquiry in India following the Air India disaster and the APEC (Pepper Spray) Inquiry.
The arrival of this exceptional litigator, who is joining us as counsel, highlights our firm's capacity and reputation in public law litigation, such as Charter and aboriginal rights issues.
With more than 375 lawyers across the country, Heenan Blaikie is one of Canada's leading law firms. We deliver a full range of legal services and innovative business solutions to a variety of clients ranging in size and sophistication from start-ups to many of the country's largest companies, institutions and government bodies.
