S. Barry Jackson, Chairman, TransCanada Corporation, is pleased to announce the election of D. Michael G. Stewart as a new director of TransCanada Corporation on April 28, 2006.

Mr. Stewart is the principal of the Ballinacurra Group, a privately-held group of companies. He also serves as a director of Esprit Energy Trust; Northpoint Energy Ltd.; and Canadian Energy Services Inc. Mr. Stewart held the position of Executive Vice-President, Business Development of Westcoast Energy until 2002, as well as numerous executive positions with subsidiaries and affiliate companies of Westcoast. Before joining Westcoast in September 1993 as President and Chief Executive Officer of Westcoast Gas Services Inc., Mr. Stewart held a number of executive positions with companies involved in the energy, fertilizer and sulphur businesses.

Mr. Stewart is a native Albertan and graduated from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences. He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.
