Dominic D’Alessandro, President and Chief Executive Officer, Manulife Financial Corporation, is pleased to announce that Paul L. Rooney has been appointed Senior Executive Vice-President of Manulife Financial and General Manager of the Canadian Division.
Previously, Mr. Rooney was Canadian Division’s Chief Financial Officer, a position he held since March 2006. He became Executive Vice-President, Individual Insurance in April 2001, where he was responsible for all Individual Insurance activities, including Affinity and with joint responsibility for Distribution.
Mr. Rooney began his career with Manulife in 1986 in its Corporate Division as an actuarial student. In 1988, he was named Senior Actuarial Associate, U.S. Individual Marketing. In 1991, he was appointed Actuary of the U.S. Corporate Financial area. Three years later, he was promoted to Assistant Vice-President and Product Manager of U.S. Individual Marketing. In 1996, Mr. Rooney was named Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer, U.S. Savings and Retirement Services and North American Group Pensions, and in 1998, he was appointed Vice-President and General Manager of Affinity Markets.
Mr. Rooney holds an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
