Scotiabank is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Porter to the position of President. In this position, Brian is responsible for overseeing all four business lines to execute the Bank’s business strategies with a focus on sustainable and profitable revenue growth. He reports to Chief Executive Officer, Rick Waugh.

Brian joined Scotiabank in 1981, and has progressed through a series of increasingly senior positions across the Bank, including executive roles with Global Banking & Markets, Global Risk Management, Group Treasury and International Banking. Brian served as the Bank’s Chief Risk Officer from 2006 to 2008, as Group Head of Risk & Treasury from 2008 to 2010 and, most recently, as Group Head of International Banking from 2010 to 2012. He was appointed President in November 2012.

Brian has been actively involved with many industry, educational, community and arts organizations. He served as Chairman of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada (IDA); currently, he is a Director of the Atlantic Salmon Federation and a Director of the Partners for Mental Health Foundation; and he is a member of the Faculty of Management Board of Advisors, Dalhousie University.

Brian earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University, and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School.
