Yvon Charest, President and Chief Executive Officer of Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc., is pleased to announce the appointment of Clément Gignac as Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist for the company.
With a masterís degree in economics from Université Laval, Mr. Gignac has a wealth of experience spanning 30 years in both the private and public sectors, and was until recently a minister in the Quebec government. Before public office, Clément Gignac served as special advisor to the Department of Finance in Ottawa, officially representing Canada in one of the G20 working groups.
Over the previous 20 years, Mr. Gignac worked primarily as an economic advisor and strategist for major financial institutions, including National Bank, where he served as vice-president and chief economist. He was elected president of the Association des économistes québécois (ASDEQ) by his peers in 2008. More recently, he was asked by the prestigious World Economic Forum, widely known for its high-profile meetings held in Davos each year, to chair its Competitiveness Committee.
Mr. Gignac will be Industrial Allianceís spokesperson on economic matters, and will also be working closely with the companyís portfolio managers on the development of asset allocation strategies for specific investment funds.
Founded in 1892, Industrial Alliance is the fourth-largest life and health insurance company in Canada. The company employs over 4,200 people, and manages and administers more than $80 billion in assets. Industrial Alliance stock is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol IAG.
