Thomas Allen, QC, Chair of the Accounting Standards Oversight Council (AcSOC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sheila Fraser, FCA as Chair of the Public Sector Accounting Board.
Mrs. Fraser was appointed Auditor General of Canada on May 1, 2001. Prior to joining the Office of the Auditor General as Deputy Auditor General, Audit Operations in January 1999, Mrs. Fraser was a partner with Ernst & Young in the Quebec City office. She is very active in the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), chairing a Working Group on Environmental Auditing and a Sub-Committee on Auditor Independence. Mrs. Fraser is a recipient of the Governor General's Commemorated Medal of Canada's 125th anniversary and the Golden Jubilee Medal.
The Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) establishes financial accounting and reporting standards for use by federal, provincial, territorial and local governments.
The Accounting Standards Oversight Council is an independent body established by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants to oversee the activities of the Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) and PSAB. Reporting to the public and consisting of 24 prominent business and government leaders, the Council brings a broad perspective to complex issues facing standard setters, and supports the PSAB in setting accounting standards. AcSOC’s responsibilities include appointing PSAB members and providing input on strategic priorities. AcSOC members, many of whom represent particular constituencies, include regulators, investors and other users, preparers and auditors of financial reports.
