From The Globe and Mail
The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Helen Fetterly as Chair, HOOPP Board of Trustees. Ms. Fetterly most recently served as Vice-Chair of HOOPP’s Board of Trustees in 2012.
A nurse with Cornwall Community Hospital since 1982, Ms. Fetterly has been a HOOPP Board member since 1996, and was elected in 1998 by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) as Secretary-Treasurer of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions, representing over 28,000 healthcare workers. Ms. Fetterly is also Chair of the Pension Committee for the CUPE Ontario Division, and Co-chair of CUPE National Pension Committee.
HOOPP is jointly governed by a Board of Trustees. Half of the trustees are appointed by the Ontario Hospital Association, and the other half by four unions – the Ontario Nurses’ Association, the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and the Service Employees International Union.
Created in 1960 and recognized in 2010 as one of Canada’s Ten Most Admired Corporate Cultures, HOOPP is the pension plan of choice for Ontario’s hospital and community-based healthcare sector, with over 370 participating employers and more than 270,000 plan members and retirees. HOOPP invests the assets of its $40 billion Fund, administers the Plan and pays more than $1.3 billion per year in pension benefits.
