The Accounting Standards Oversight Council (AcSOC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Denis Desautels as Chair effective April 1, 2010.

Mr. Desautels was Auditor-General of Canada from 1991 to 2001. At the time of his appointment, he was the senior partner at Ernst & Young in the Montreal office. Mr. Desautels has extensive experience in public sector auditing and accounting at federal, provincial and municipal levels. He has been an AcSOC member since the Councilís inception in 2000, serving as Vice-Chair since April 1, 2005. Mr. Desautels currently serves as the Chair of AcSOCís Performance Review Committee. He sits on the Board of Directors of a number of organizations, including CARE Canada, Community Foundation of Ottawa, International Development Research Centre, Laurentian Bank of Canada (Chair), Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc., and Bombardier Inc.

The Accounting Standards Oversight Council (AcSOC) is an independent, volunteer body established by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants that serves the public interest by overseeing and providing input on the activities of the Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) and the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB). AcSOC's responsibilities include appointing AcSOC, AcSB and PSAB members. Reporting to the public and made up of representatives that include regulators, investors and other users, preparers and auditors of financial reports, AcSOC brings a broad perspective to complex issues facing standard setters in both the private and public sector.
