The Board of Directors of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Jim Burpee as Chair of the Association.
Mr Burpee is currently Senior Vice President, Electricity Production of Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG). As such, he is responsible for the provision of capacity and energy and related products and services from Hydroelectric and Fossil generating facilities.
Appointed to his present position at OPG in 1999, Mr. Burpee was formerly Senior Vice President, Electricity Production of Ontario Hydro. From 1996 to 1997, Mr. Burpee was Site Vice President of Bruce Nuclear where he was responsible for the production of electrical capacity and energy from Ontario Hydro’s Bruce Site. From 1993 to 1996 and again from 1997 to 1998, Mr. Burpee served as General Manager, Fossil. Previous to this position, he was Director of Thermal, Engineering and Construction Services. From 1989 to 1992, he held the position of Production Manager, Units 1 and 2, Lakeview Thermal Generating Station, and from 1986 to 1989, he was the Maintenance Superintendent at Thunder Bay and Atikokan Thermal Generating Stations.
Mr. Burpee is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of several organizations including the Electrical Power Systems Construction Association, and Canada’s Climate Change Voluntary Challenge Registry.
Founded in 1891, CEA is the national forum and voice of the evolving electricity industry in Canada. The Association’s members produce 95 per cent of Canada’s electricity, manage assets of more than $150 billion and employ 85,000 Canadians.
