He is committed to ensuring that the next Parliament works for working families. Peter's priorities as a New Democratic Party MP would include: -addressing the crisis in agriculture by creating a national Family Farm Support program to provide adequate income support for farmers; -increasing federal funding for health care and adding home care and help with prescription drugs to Medicare; -doubling the Child Tax Benefit to $4200 per year; -creating a national Early Years Fund for early childhood education and childcare; -rolling back tuition fees and creating interest-free loans for college and university students; -developing a legally enforceable Environmental Bill of Rights; -establishing tough national standards and strong programs for safe food, clean drinking water and clean air; -establishing an energy price commission to approve any fuel price increases; and -developing a national highways program in co-operation with the provinces
