Great Airport Business Centres

Friday, August 31, 2001
Carl Dieterle

Stuck between planes with nothing to do? This month's picks highlight the best places to turn airport downtime into working time. We based our criteria for excellence on ease, convenience and services provided. Sorry -- no more excuses for blowing off the time you spend in transit.

1. Plaza Premium Lounge

Hong Kong International Airport, 7th floor, West Hall Concourse

In a tossup for top spot, Hong Kong's hot showers and massage chairs won out -- the icing on the bevy of business services offered both at this airport and its sister facility in Kuala Lumpur.

2. Plaza Premium Lounge

Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Mezzanine Floor, Satellite Building

Balm for executive stress: support that runs from translation, interpretation and courier services to video/audio conferencing and meeting rooms. They'll even print your business cards.

3. Aerzone Business Center

JFK International Airport, New York, Terminal 1

Ergonomically designed cubicles have desktop PCs with laptop connections; a cyber-concierge is on hand for tech support; and conference rooms and printing services are available.

4. The Business Centre

Heathrow Airport, London, Queens Building (between Terminals 1 and 2)

Internet access, videoconferencing, 18 meeting rooms, soundproof telephone booths and light snacks, in case you get peckish.

5. Connect Business Centre

Dubai International Airport Exhibition Centre

Like so many things in this affluent Gulf city, this facility is state-of-the-art smart. An internet café and 24-hour secretarial services are also available on the Arrivals concourse.

6. Business Centre

Singapore Changi Airport, Terminals 1 and 2 transit hotels

Internet workstations and meeting rooms as well as photocopying, fax and telex services.

7. Laptop Lane

O'Hare International Airport, Chicago, Terminal 1

This comprehensive centre has everything you need to get on with business in a hurry. Staff are courteous and helpful.

8. Aerzone Business Center

Vancouver International Airport, Transborder Post-Security

With all the usual Aerzone services, documents can also be printed and ready for pick-up at any other Aerzone location.

9. Business Centre

Amsterdam Schipol Airport, Lounge Central

This sleek operation boasts eight mini-offices equipped with PCs, internet access, telephones, printers and copiers. There are also 28 high-speed internet workstations on the mezzanine.

10. Business Center

Roissy Charles de Gaulle, Paris, Terminal 1

Fully equipped meeting rooms, offices, a VIP lounge and you can order a glass of vin rouge -- but of course.
