ENERGY INNOVATOR

Distribution company explores clean alternatives

Enbridge’s core business may be energy delivery, but the Alberta-based company has also advanced a number of alternative and renewable energy projects that it says both complement its core operations and provide environmental benefits.

Among them, the company now has three wind-power projects in operation and a fourth under construction. The electricity Enbridge produces is used to help power petroleum pipelines in Alberta, with the remaining energy delivered into the provincial electricity grids. At its Toronto headquarters, Enbridge recently unveiled a near-zero-emissions fuel-cellpowered turbine to regulate pressure in its main gas line.
