Shirley Chan is a member of the federal public service, most recently serving as Acting Regional Director General of Health Canada (BC/Yukon Region). Previously, she was Manager of Housing Operations for the City of Vancouver and Chief-of-Staff to Mayor Mike Harcourt, overseeing strategic planning and policy development.
An active member of the community, Ms. Chan has chaired the UBC Board of Governors and VanCity Board of Directors. She organized the Strathcona Property Owners and Tenants Association, was a founding director of the Chinese Cultural Centre, served on the Premierís Coalition in the Downtown Eastside, and is a member of the Channel M Advisory Council.
In 1993, she was recognized by Simon Fraser University with the Outstanding Alumni Award in Community Service.
Ms. Chan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University in 1971. She completed a Masters in Environmental Studies at York University. In 1999, she received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of British Columbia.
