Andy Burton was born in England in 1942 and immigrated to Canada at the age of ten. His family settled in Prince George, British Columbia, where he lived until graduating from Prince George Senior High School in 1959.
From 1959 until 1964, he worked as a surveyor on highway construction and later as a Shell bulk plant manager. From 1964 to 2000, Andy was self-employed as a small business owner and property manager. He and his wife Ann have five children and eight grandchildren.
Andy has resided in the Skeena riding for over forty years and had been involved in municipal politics for over 24 years. He served as Mayor of the Town of Stewart for six years and as Alderman and Councillor for the town for another 18 years.
Andy was also a Director for the Stewart area on the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine for over 15 years.
Andy became a member of the Consevative Party of Canada (formerly known as the Reform Party and Canadian Alliance) in 1987. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for Skeena in November 2000. Since that time, Andy has served in different portfolios.
He is currently serving as the Official Opposition Deputy Critic for Fisheries and Oceans.
