Jim Abbott is the sitting Member of Parliament for Kootenay-Columbia, B.C.
He was first elected an MP in 1993, re-elected in 1997 and again in 2000.
Formerly a member of the Canadian Alliance, Jim now sits in Parliament as a member of the Conservative Party of Canada.
He currently serves as critic for Canadian Heritage for the CPC. Previously he was critic for Solicitor General, Revenue Canada and Regional Development. He was also Deputy Critic for Foreign Affairs Asia Pacific and Senate critic.
Jim served on several Standing Committee of the House of Commons.
Among these assignments were the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights, Canadian Heritage, Public Accounts (government expenditures), Finance, Environment and Natural Resources (Forestry).
Jim brings to his work as a parliamentarian a background of sales, marketing and business management with his own firm as well as small, medium and international businesses.
