Dave Chatters was born in Westlock, Alberta in 1946 and has spent most of his life living and farming in the surrounding area. Dave has been both a grain and beef cattle farmer, and he most recently ran a purebred Charolais cattle operation in Jarvie, Alberta.
For 15 years Dave worked in oil and gas exploration in various locations across North America, following which he became active in the Westlock community by serving on the Westlock School Division Board, where he was Chairman for most of the 7 years.
He was first elected Member of Parliament for the federal riding of Athabasca on October 25, 1993. He has served on various Standing Committees, including: Industry, Environment and Transport.
He is currently serving as a member on the Standing Committee for Aboriginal Affairs & Natural Resources and the Standing Committee for Environment and Sustainable Development. Dave is also an associate member on the Standing Committees for Agriculture and Agri-Food, Canadian Heritage, Citizenship and Immigration, Finance, Fisheries and Oceans, Foreign Affairs & International Trade, and Government Operations & Estimates.
Dave also spent time serving as a Canadian Alliance House Officer. For over 9 years, he has been the Senior Opposition Critic for Natural Resources.
Dave has been married for 37 years to his wife Evie. They have two sons, Gary and Matthew, two daughters-in-law Patty and Andrea, as well as five grandchildren.
