Penson, Charlie

Alberta, Peace River, Conservative Party of Canada

Born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Conservative MP Charlie Penson was first elected as Member of Parliament for the riding of Peace River in 1993, and was re-elected in 1997 and 2000.

Mr. Penson was appointed Official Opposition Critic for International Trade in July 2003. Prior to that, he had been the Canadian Alliance Critic for Finance, Member of the Standing Committee on Finance, Canadian Alliance Critic for Industry, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology, Reform Party Critic for International Trade and a member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

Mr. Penson and his family have a 2000-acre grain and oilseed farm. He has been Chairman of the Northern Alberta Rapeseed Processors and a director of the Rural Electrical Association.

He also served as a director of the La Glace and District Agricultural Society for 15 years, including two terms as President, and he served for three years as a director of the La Glace Savings and Credit Union.

Mr. Penson and his wife Bernice have four children.
