Debby Carlson's roots in Edmonton—Strathcona are deep and strong. Ms.Carlson has been involved in a wide range of community organizations and is deeply committed to a healthy and vibrant community.
She served on the advisory boards of the National Film and Television Institute of Alberta, was a founding member of the Edmonton Women's Liberal Policy Association, and has been a consultant to the Federal Business Development Bank, the YMCA Enterprise Centre and Junior Achievement. She once hosted and co-produced "We Mean Business," a TV show on small business, and lends her talent as an auctioneer to many local charities for fundraisers.
Ms.Carlson's experience in politics is extensive. She served three terms as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for the Official Opposition. Over her ten years as an MLA, she served as House Leader and Deputy Leader, and held many critic portfolios, including Sustainable Resource Development, Economic Development, International and Inter-governmental Affairs and Environment. She has been called "the straight-shooting'" Liberal for her tell-it-like-it-is, common sense approach to tough issues such as water and climate change.
Her two children, Michael and Missy, attended J.H. Picard School, and her husband, Dr. Mike Percy, is Dean of Business at the University of Alberta.
