Cameron Wakefield grew up in Red Deer, Alberta. He went on to complete his B.Sc. in physics as well as two years of postgraduate electrical engineering studies at McGill University. While living in Montreal, Cameron learned to speak French fluently and developed a passion for Quebec and its vibrant culture. During the 1990s, as the environmental movement gained momentum and increasingly made headlines, Cameronís interest and involvement in it also grew. Now 37, he works in customer service and has been a member of the board of directors of the local CPAWS chapter since 2002, a volunteer with the Sierra Club since 2003, and president of the Alberta Chapter of the Green Party of Canada also since 2003.
