Margaret Marean, candidate for Edmonton Sherwood Park, is a citizen who is deeply concerned with the sustainability of the environment, with the future of public and social institutions, with human rights issues and with re-establishing Canada’s reputation as an international peacemaker. She is a psychologist, mother, community volunteer and environmental advocate. Having traveled extensively and lived in Singapore and Australia she has seen the effects of global environmental destruction. With roots in rural Saskatchewan and a love of wilderness activities such as backcountry hiking, she believes that all decisions must be made with the future health of the environment in mind. “People cannot be healthy, physically, mentally or spiritually, unless the Earth is healthy". She believes that the growing epidemics of depression and stress are related to individuals’ disconnection with the environment and their feelings of helplessness and hopelessness regarding the future. Recognizing that political change is the only way to ensure the health of the planet, Margaret joined the Green Party 9 years ago and ran for the Alberta Greens in the last provincial election.
