Art Hanger was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993 representing the riding of Calgary Northeast. He was
re-elected in 1997 and 2000.
A former police officer, Mr. Hanger served on the Calgary Police Force for 22 years. From 1988 to 1993, he worked as a detective in the areas of major and commercial crimes.
Since his election in 1993, Mr. Hanger has held several critic portfolios: Immigration, Solicitor General and National Defence.
In addition to his new responsibilities, Mr. Hanger continues to work tirelessly on issues such as criminal justice reform.
He believes that we should get tough with criminals to this end, he will be re-introducing his Private Member’s Bill entitled: Carrie’s Guardian Angels Law. The goal of this bill is to get tough with sexual predators. Under his bill a sexual predator would receive 20 years to life with no chance of parole in cases of sexual assault on a child.
