Stephan Garland, IT professional, former taxi driver, and military member. Born February 22, 1962 in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Grew up in Calgary. Joined the Canadian Armed Forces after completing high school. Served a three-year term before returning to school to study engineering at Medicine Hat College. After college served another three years in the military when he met his wife and her two sons. After a second term of service Stephan returned to Calgary in search of a business that would sustain him and his family, after a dreadful failure he turned to driving taxis to provide for his family, while studying for a career in information technology.
Stephan is the father of five children. He has been active in the church and with air and army cadet programs, leading others by example.
Both Stephan's father and grandfather retired as civil servants under Canada's Unemployment Insurance Commission. His grandfather was a navigator on bombers during the Second World War.
Stephan knows what it is like to try and support a family on a low income and has felt the anguish of financial hardship brought about by government policy designed to serve the rich and burden the poor. A man of values and principles, he has made the betterment of others his life's goal. Stephan is not out of touch with the people, he is where they are at, trying to earn a living and support a family. He knows how it feels, as you watch your income lose ground each year, because big corporations would rather pay dividends to their shareholders than take care their employees, and government would rather grease their supporters with patronage money and line their own pockets than make any real change in the lives of the average Canadian.
Stephan is a new voice that rings out with the cry of the average Canadian. Stephan is your voice in Ottawa.
