Benson, Bruce

Manitoba, Selkirk - Interlake, Liberal Party of Canada

Bruce Benson is a former journalist and teacher, and now makes his living as a commercial fisher on Lake Winnipeg.

Mr. Benson is a member of the Liberal Party Executive, has been a member of the Gimli Kinsmen Club for the past ten years, and is the past director of the Chamber of Commerce.

He is also a land developer, and his developments have brought millions of dollars of tax assessment to the Gimli area.

Mr. Benson is the president of the Harbour Authority in Arnes, and Chairman of the Freshwater Harbour Authority Advisory Council which covers two-thirds of Canada. He was recently elected Chairman of the National Harbour Authority Advisory Council which encompasses Harbour Authorities for all of Canada.

He loves to push himself to see what he can achieve. He has kayaked the Mississippi River, cycled from Vancouver to Tijuana, canoed from Thunder Bay to Selkirk twice, and completed the Iron Man triathlon. He has a private pilotís license, and an advanced open water scuba diving certificate. He has fished commercially for cod and haddock in Iceland, tuna in Australia, and salmon & prawns in British Columbia.

Mr. Benson, 42, was born in Arborg, and raised in Gimli, where he lives to this day with his wife Linda and their three children.
