Giesbrecht, Jacob

Manitoba, Kildonan - St. Paul, Green Party of Canada
"I enjoy the privileges of the great society we have in Canada. I recognize that with these privileges come responsibilities. I feel responsible to my generation and to the generations to follow: to my daughter and her childrenís childrenís generations. I feel that we must work to safeguard our environment so that we can continue to have safe food, clean water and breathable air. Common sense tells me if we donít work now to lay the groundwork for a fresh way of living within our environmental means, future generations will be forced to bear an irreversible and unbearable cost. As rational thinking human beings, we can do better than that."

After growing up in rural Manitoba, Jacob moved to Winnipeg in 1986 and has lived here ever since, moving into the Garden City area in 2003. He has a large extended family, many of whom live in the Kildonan, St. Paul area. Jacob has a beautiful daughter named Amber.

Jacob is a lawyer at the downtown firm Inkster Christie Hughes practicing in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, estate litigation, employment and labour law.

Like many Winnipeggers, Jacob is active as a volunteer. He enjoys working with committed community members to remove barriers that keep some of our citizens from full participation in the life of our great City. He has held various executive positions on the board of the Independent Living Resource Centre, has worked as a member of the steering committee for the annual Family Kite Festival and volunteers his services to several downtown antipoverty organizations. Jacob also donates his time to the Bar Association, working on the executive of the Wills and Estates Section.
