Murray, Glen

Manitoba, Charleswood - St. James, Liberal Party of Canada

Glen Murray has served Winnipeggers at City Hall for more than 15 years. He was first elected as Mayor in 1998 and re-elected in 2002. Mr. Murray served as City Councillor for Fort Rouge from 1990 to 1998. Prior to entering politics, he was a founding member of Winnipeg's first AIDS clinic and a health educator giving him front-line experience in the health care field.

Mr. Murray’s passion for Winnipeg began in 1985 when his career with Canada Post brought him to Manitoba. He fell in love with the city’s architecture, artistic vibrancy, ethnic diversity, urban forest, and community spirit.

As Mayor of Winnipeg, Mr. Murray consistently championed initiatives for the benefits of residents of Charleswood, St. James and Assiniboia. He has strong record of working for projects that matter to residents.

In his time as Mayor, he had an unmatched fiscal record. He led Winnipeg city council in stretching taxpayers' dollars as far as possible. His leadership in economic development has led to jobs, expansions and improvements for industries, such as Winpak Ltd., Standard Aero, and the Winnipeg Airport Authority. Mr. Murray’s ability to build civic coalitions and lead with integrity has earned him a high approval rating among Winnipeggers.

Mr. Murray has had years of experience as a mayor and city councillor serving citizens and he embraces the commitment of time and energy that it takes to serve.
