· Came to Canada from England in 1958

· Represented the concerns of 48,000 educators across the province as the Provincial President the Federation of Women Teachers Associations of Ontario

· Worked with colleagues in other teachers' federations to fight for quality education locally, provincially and nationally

· For her work in building the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario, received the Queen's Jubilee Medal and was named a Fellow of the Ontario Teachers' Federation

· As an elementary school teacher and principal, has worked with her school communities for almost 30 years to help students succeed and to open doors for the future success of thousands of children

· Holds a Master of Educational Administration degree

· Her success stories include working with community agencies to bring after school activities to students in need and developing a family reading, recognition and awards program to improve primary students' reading skills

· Volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors of the Durham Children's Aid Society and the Ontario Association of Children's Aid Societies

· Recently worked with 17 local agencies to develop a document called "Moving Forward Together", a blueprint for services for children and families in need in the Durham Region

· Worked with the DCAS to organize an all candidates' debate and open forum during the provincial election, coordinated leadership seminars and supported local crisis shelters through her work with the teachers' federation

· Lives with her husband David in Whitby.
