Mike was raised just outside of Fergus, Wellington County, where his
family continues to reside. Mike’s father, the late Dr. Paul Chong, was a prominent physician in Wellington County for over a quarter of a century. The Chongs are an integral part of community life in Fergus and the surrounding area.
Mike is an IT executive who has worked in technology positions with
Barclays Bank and Research Capital Corporation. More recently, Mike acted as Chief Information Officer at the National Hockey League Players’ Association. Currently, he is a senior technology consultant on a large-scale construction project in the GTA.
Mike’s involvement also extends to his volunteer and advocacy work. In 1997, he co-founded the Dominion Institute, an organization committed to raising awareness of our history and civics among Canadians.
As a result of Mike’s input and direction, the Dominion Institute worked closely with the Government of Ontario to improve the way history is taught in schools. The Institute runs a programme centered on Remembrance Week, “The Memory Project”, which brings veterans, teachers and youth together to explore the wartime experiences of generations past. Mike is Treasurer of the Institute and sits on its Board of Governors.
In 2002, Mike was invited to sit on the Groves Memorial Community Hospital’s Capital Campaign, a $30 million campaign to raise funds for the expansion of the hospital. He has been actively involved with the campaign since and has helped raise $12.5 million from the community for this important cause. Mike also sits on the Corporation of Trinity College, in the University of Toronto, one of its governing bodies.
Mike is a conservative who believes in fiscal prudence, free enterprise and the underlying civility of Canadian society. His time in the private sector has shown him the value of a dollar, and his community involvement has shown him that those who get involved can improve their communities. He believes that the country needs a new national vision, one that will see Canada once again position itself as a player in the world and one that will bring government with integrity to Ottawa. It is Mike’s firm belief that Canada is more than the sum of its parts and that it is the responsibility of national government to articulate a common identity that resonates with all Canadians.
Mike’s experiences, belief in public service and political vision have led him to put himself forward as a candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada for Wellington -Halton Hills. Mike would be a dedicated Conservative MP for the people of Wellington-Halton Hills. He would bring youth, vigour and integrity as the riding’s Member of Parliament.
