Born in North Bay and raised in Sesekinika (between Kirkland Lake and Matheson), Andrew has lived in Northern Ontario most of his life. The son of a Dutch immigrant father and a French-English mother, Andrew and his three older siblings were raised to appreciate and respect all people from all the wonderful cultures of the world.
Andrew attended Sacred Heart and St. Jerome Elementary Schools and K.L.C.V.I. High School in Kirkland Lake. To put himself through university, Andrew worked part-time and summer jobs at: Northwood Camp for Disabled Children on Lake Sesekinika, MacPherson’s General Store/Esso & LCBO Agency in Kenogami and at Mallette’s (Tembec) Sawmill in Kenogami.
After graduating from Laurentian University in Sudbury with an Honours Degree consisting of a double major in both Law & Justice and Political Science, Andrew went on to become the Deputy Clerk/Treasurer and Economic Development Officer of the Town of Englehart.
Andrew then moved to Queen’s Park to work for Dan Newman, the Minister of Northern Development and Mines and subsequently the Associate Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. In addition to becoming the Minister’s Executive Assistant and Chief of Staff, Andrew was also his Deputy Campaign Manager, his Technology Chair and GOTV chair.
Andrew has been extremely active volunteering in the community over the years with the Canadian Cancer Society, the Easter Seal Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Sesekinika Volunteer Fire Brigade
Additionally, Andrew has sat on various boards and committees, including; Treasurer of the Timiskaming-Cochrane Canadian Alliance, President of the Laurentian University PC Association, Area Director of the Timiskaming-Cochrane Provincial PC Association, Secretary of the Scarborough Southwest Provincial PC Association, member of the PC Party of Canada and a member of the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario.
Andrew has received recognition and awards from the Ontario Provincial Police, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Association and the Royal Canadian Legion. Andrew is also an avid angler and hunter.
As someone who is not a career politician, Andrew hopes to bring his youth, education, experience dealing with all levels of government, his people skills and his leadership qualities to the caucus table. Years of Liberal misrepresentation for our riding has gotten us nowhere. Now is the time for a change to Effective and Efficient, Elected representation for Timmins-James Bay.
