Tom Varesh was raised in the 7-oaks area of Scarborough, and he and his family have lived in the riding for over 27 years. After graduating from West Hill Collegiate, he attended the University of Toronto, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree and an MBA (Masters in Business Administration).
To help finance his education, Tom spent his summers working at a Volkswagen dealership in Scarborough and at Scotiabank. He was instrumental in organizing U of T students to volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Easter Seals Society. At Scotiabank, he was a branch representative for the United Way and Childrenís Hospital Network campaigns.
Tomís professional career began in British Columbia as a Personal Banking Officer at Scotiabank. After spending 3 years in BC, he returned to Scarborough after being promoted to the position of Account Manager in Group Retirement Services. He then spent some years in the Corporate & Commercial Electronic Banking unit of Scotiabank where he continued to develop his expertise in the banking sector. Tom is currently employed at Canaccord Capital as an Equity Research Associate, covering Transportation and Aerospace companies. He plays in integral role in this team that is ranked third in the industry.
Tom has been active in a wide range of organizations, including the United Way, the Childrenís Hospital Network, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Easter Seals Society. Tom has also volunteered his time as a coach in community softball, high school football and has been a volunteer with the Boy Scouts.
Tom is also the presenter, one of three contributors and a founder of the Paul Turner Memorial Award. Established in 1992, this award has provided a graduating student from West Hill C.I. with a scholarship to help pay for their post secondary education. For the first time in 2003, this scholarship paid $1,000 to the recipient of the award.
For many years, Tom has been active in conservative political campaigns at the provincial and federal levels, both in Ontario and BC. Armed with significant experience in the finance industry, coupled with his strong educational background, Tom looks to make a significant contribution to national policy and local community initiatives. Tom and his family continue to make their home in the 7-oaks area of Scarborough Guildwood.
