A respected educator and municipal councillor, Bryon Wilfert was first elected in the newly created riding of Oak Ridges in 1997 and re-elected in 2000.
From February 2002 to December 2003, Mr. Wilfert was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and sat on the Finance Committee. Presently, he is a member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the All Party Sport & Physical Activity Caucus, the Advisory Council to the Canada-Korea Society, and the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs.
In addition, he was a member of the Prime Ministerís Task Force on Urban Issues in 2003 and is currently co-chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group.
Nationally known for his expertise on municipal issues, he served as Municipal Councillor for the Town of Richmond Hill from 1985 to 1997. He served as the President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities from 1996 to 1997.
Recently, he was awarded the Premierís Awards for Graduates of Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology.
He earned Bachelorís degrees in Arts and Education, and a Masterís degree in Political Economy, from the University of Toronto.
He and his wife Elizabeth reside in Richmond Hill.
