Schellenberger, Gary

Ontario, Perth - Wellington, Conservative Party of Canada

Gary Schellenberger has lived and worked in Sebringville, a small Ontario community in the heart of Perth-Middlesex, all of his life. Professionally, he has met the challenges of operating a family painting and decorating business for over 40 years.

Gary's first introduction to politics was on the municipal council for Downie Township, later the Township of Perth South, where he served for 12 years. During that time, he gained a keen understanding of the needs of communities in rural Ontario.

Serving the community is second nature to Gary. He was a member of the Perth East Firefighters for 14 years, and was a Board Member of the Stratford Agricultural Society, as well as being an Elder of Avonton Church, and a member of the Stratford on Avon Shrine Club. Gary is also a man of action when his community needs help. In 1996, he personally raised $26,000 in support of the Sebringville Community Centre and the Sebringville Athletic Association, by walking from Tobermory to Sebringville, a distance of over 250km.

Elected to the House of Commons on May 12, 2003, Gary serves as the Conservative Party’s critic for Heritage and Amateur Sport.

Gary and his wife Judy have three children and five grandchildren.
