Irene Tietz is the Green Party of Canada candidate for Oxford.
Irene holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Natural Sciences and Fine Arts from the University of Western Ontario in London. Irene taught for 33 years with the Thames Valley School Board.
Prior to her retirement, Irene organized school-wide participation with Earth Day Canada for many years, and in 1999 a small Thames Valley school received the prestigious Earth Day Canada award for all of Ontario. Earth Day Canada president, Jed Goldberg, congratulated Irene “for her commitment and dedication to improving the environment in her community and beyond. Her leadership, diligence and enthusiasm in the Youth for Reuse program had been exemplary.”
As a current member of Carolinian Canada, and both the Ingersoll and District Nature Club and Horticultural Society, Irene actively promotes the stewardship responsibilities of urban and rural landowners.
Additionally, Irene co-owned a local fruit stand/garden centre/maintenance operation for 12 years. In partnership with her husband of 34 years, Jurgen, she helped manage the business while teaching full time and raising two children. Irene was born in Austria and immigrated to Canada at the age of six with her parents, who currently live in London.
