Ray Bonin was was first elected to the House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt in 1993. He was re-elected in 1997 and 2000.
A proud husband, father, grandfather and Northerner, he has never forgotten his roots.
Mr. Bonin knows that it is a profound honour and privilege to represent the people of Nickel Belt. Whether he is helping an individual constituent solve a personal problem, working in support of a community initiative or tirelessly promoting Nickel Belt and Northern Ontario, Mr. Bonin has built a solid reputation as a Member of Parliament who is deeply committed to the people and communities he represents.
He has also earned the respect of his colleagues and was recently elected, by a unanimous vote, to Chair the Standing Committee on Transport. Prior to his election to that post, Mr. Bonin served as the Chair of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources.
