Allan McKeown has lived over half his life in Sarnia, arriving in 1972 from North Ireland. He has been married to Dorothy for 33 years and they have two children, Ciara (22) and Kevin (19).
Allan is now retired, having been employed by the Lambton Hospitals Group as a Technical Specialist in Microbiology, being responsible for over-seeing the provision of clinical microbiology services for the area's medical community.
Allan has been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada for 16 years, and with the Board of the Women's Interval Home for 3 years. He has volunteered for 20 years as a rugby referee for club and school games.
In 1994. Allan co-founded the Sarnia-Lambton White Ribbon Campaign to end violence against women. In 1988, he joined Toastmasters International. He helped establish a Toastmasters' club at the hospitals in 1992 and served as President from 1992-1994. Allan also promoted the implementation of an Environmental Advisory Committee for the City of Sarnia.
Allan is the President-elect of the Unitarian Fellowship of Sarnia-Port Huron and is also a professionally trained lay chaplain and celebrant. He performed the first legal same-sex marriage in Sarnia.
