First elected to the House of Commons in 1988, Stan Keyes has been re-elected in all subsequent elections.
Mr. Keyes currently serves as Minister of National Revenue, Minister of State (Sport), and Minister responsible for the Canada Post Corporation and the Royal Canadian Mint. Prior to his appointment, he served as Chair of the national Liberal Caucus. He has also served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, Chair of the Standing Committee on Transport, and as member of the Standing Committees on Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Industry.
In March 1998, Mr. Keyes was the first Canadian to be honoured as the American Association of Port Authorities’ Port Person of the Year in recognition for his work on the Canada Marine Act.
Born in Hamilton, Mr. Keyes enjoyed a successful career as a broadcast journalist before entering politics. He spent two years with CKVR-TV in Barrie, Ontario after studying broadcast journalism at Mohawk College. He returned to Hamilton to accept a position with CHCH-TV, where he remained for thirteen years.
Married in Hamilton in 1975, he and his wife Catherine have two daughters.
