O'Connor, Leon Patrick

Leon O’Connor, a proud member of the First Nations Community, is originally from Manitoulin Island.

He has worked as a Correctional Officer for over 18 years at the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Center. He has also been employed by the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board in the Special Education Department.

He has been married to Patricia for 31 years, and together they have three daughters Kelli, Colleen and Courtney.

Leon graduated in 1994 with a diploma in SSW Mohawk College Brantford Campus.

He was the candidate of record for the Canadian Alliance in the 2000 Federal Election for the riding of Hamilton West.

In 2001, he became a member of the Canadian Alliance Aboriginal Task Force.

Leon was a founding member of the Hamilton Regional Native Friendship Center and a founding member of Urban Native Homes Inc., Hamilton.

Additionally, he established the Native Court Work System for Hamilton and surounding areas in 1972.
