Alain Lalonde was born on March 26, 1953 in Plantagenet. He is a life-long resident of the village; his family has worked and lived in the riding for generations. His wife Manon and him have been married for 29 years and are the parents of two daughters, Marie-Ève and Amélie. Alain has more than 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell. His family owned and operated the International Harvester dealership (farm machinery, trucks and industrial equipment) for more than three generations. He now works as a private consultant in public affairs.
As a committed volunteer over the past 20 years, Alain as donated, and continues to donate, his time as an auctioneer to charitable and non-profit organizations in support of their fundraising efforts for numerous community causes in Eastern Ontario (United Way, Heart and Stroke Foundation etc.). As executive director of a major fundraising campaign, Alain has raised over 2 million dollars from the private sector since 2002. These donations have been used to build the first Vocational and Technical High School on the campus of La Cité collégiale in eastern Ontario, which opened in 2003.
Mr Lalonde began his political career in 1994 as Reeve of the village of Plantagenet, untill 1997. In 1996, he was elected Warden for the United Counties of Prescott-Russell. During these years, he also chaired numerous municipal committees, was elected to the Executive Committee of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and of served as a Municipal Representative of the Municipal-Provincial Transition Team. From 1997 to 1999, Alain Lalonde worked at Queens Park as Chief of Staff to Honorable Noble Villeneuve, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of Ontario and Minister Responsable for Francophone Affairs. This experience enabled him to run as the Glengarry-Prescott-Russell candidate for the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario in 1999. Since then, he has worked as Executive Consultant in public affairs with The Strategies Group and was a Board Member the Montfort Hospital Foundation.
