Preston, Joe

Ontario, Elgin - Middlesex - London, Conservative Party of Canada

In addition to a successful business career, Joe Preston has an impressive track record of community involvement in the Elgin-Middlesex-London Riding, particularly with the voluntary sector.

With United Way, he showed leadership during two terms as Campaign Chair, both million-dollar campaigns. He then served six years on its Board of Directors and rose to president of that organization.

He's been Chair of the St. Thomas Downtown Development Board and a Task Force Member of the St. Thomas Community Improvement Plan Task Force.

Committed to ongoing community improvement, Joe has been active as a Steering Committee Director for Communities in Bloom and was Community Involvement Chair when St. Thomas was declared a National Champion in 2003.

Following through on his dual interests in business and community involvement, in 2000-2002 Joe Preston chaired the Board of Directors of one of Canada's most successful Chambers of Commerce in St. Thomas and District.

He is currently President-Elect of the St. Thomas Kiwanis Club, and a Member of the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Fundraising Cabinet.

Recently, Joe has been involved in local media as host and moderator of "Politically Speaking", a Rogers Cable live phone-in television program.

Youth Joe Preston doesn't just talk about Youth. Like everything else he does, he gets involved. As a committed United Way Director, he launched a local Day of Caring, matching high-school volunteers with community projects to assist non-profit organizations. He has been a long-time Board member of the local Youth Employment Counselling Centre, is Past President and currently Treasurer of that organization and has been active in trying to secure a new Youth Centre for the area. Committed to youth sports, Joe is Vice President of the St. Thomas Stars Jr. B Hockey Club and he lends his distinctive voice to the arena when he assumes the role of Game Announcer for home games.
