Côme Roy was born in 1943 in Chicoutimi. Since 1967, he has lived in Rimouski, in the Lower St. Lawrence region.
After studying at the University of Sherbrooke, he taught with the Lower St. Lawrence (now called Les Phares) School Board for 32 years. In 1983, he obtained his Master’s degree in education from the University of Quebec at Rimouski.
In 1976, he spent time in France, teaching in a high school. Between 1983 to 1985, he worked as a teacher training instructor at the École Normale Supérieure de Meknès in Morocco.
In 1994, he was elected as municipal councillor and has held that position since then. He was a member of the board of his city’s regional tourist association and its green-space committee.
At present, he is an administrator at the Rimouski tourist office and is a member of his municipality’s finance committee.
Mr. Roy is actively involved in the social life of his city. Committed to his community, he is considered to be a fighter. He is particularly recognized for the work he did over a number of years to improve the status of teachers.
